Bob Haro's Master was a cutting-edge freestyle bike that revolutionized BMX. It was one of the defining models of the mid 1980s. Haro Bikes was one of the leading brands in freestyle BMX biking bikes during the 1980s. These bikes were the winners of almost every race in the sport. Haro Freestylers and Master were two of the first freestyle models that hit the marketplace. Both models share a similar head tube angle and seat mast. Both bikes share a swaged back triangle. But there are a few key differences between the two bikes.

The shape of the fork legs is a major difference. In the original generation, the fork stander had been placed higher on the fork legs. This allowed the fork to fold up and out of the way while retaining the bike's upright ride.

Later models of the "Master", however, were redesigns. For example, the gussets at the front of the bike were machined to eliminate cracking issues. These frames were also fitted with more refined chainstays. The non-drive side dropouts on the frames were also offset rather than brazed-on.

Torker BMX made the USA Haro Master 2nd generation. It looked very much like the original drawing from 1983. There were many new features, including swept dropouts and tapered seat stays. Double s-bend chains stays fed into the rear dropout to create a standing platform.


The introduction of a fully-welded gusset at its front end was another significant improvement. This increased the Master's risk of cracking and also provided a slight weight advantage.

The 1986 models were the most desirable of all the era's models. Although many of these bikes were built from the 1986 model, the specifications were modified to match the cost of the frame from 1986. Master didn't have a stacked mast for the seats, as the FST and Sport did.

There were three color schemes for the Haro Master. Neon Green was the team's issue. Also available were blue and gray. Haro Master was also available in two sizes, as with Sport and FST.

The 86 "Master" was a highly collectible bike. Team riders, including Dave Nourie, Ron Wilkerson, and Brian Blyther, all received one of these bikes. Some bikes were equipped only with the rear triangle. Other models were equipped with serial numbers starting in 1985.
